Applied Ultrasonics employs a team of qualified engineers and technicians with a collective experience of over 150 years. 

 

With offices and facilities located in Australia and the United States. Applied Ultrasonics is well positioned to support its customers.

 

We are focused on becoming the world leader in ultrasonic peening technology. Our aim is to continue to establish UIT as a viable post weld treatment in the welding industry and to have the technology accredited across multiple industry groups. 

OUR STORY

1972

Ultrasonic Impact Technology (UIT) was developed in Russia for the purpose of strengthening the hulls of their nuclear submarine fleet.

1997

Applied Ultrasonics was founded by a small group of industrial professionals with expertise in steel, engineering and manufacturing.

 

 

 

 

1999

UIT was subjected to extensive independent testing and verification by a range of highly respected research groups. 

2002

Applied Ultrasonics commenced the use of UIT for commercial and operational applications globally.

2015

Progress Rail a Caterpillar company, acquired Applied Ultrasonics from the original owners.

2022

Applied Ultrasonics was acquired from Progress Rail by an Australian/US management group and a new manufacturing facility was opened in Alabama, US to support global expansion.

2023

Applied Ultrasonics will continue to expand its specialised offerings within Australia, the US and internationally using the existing service support model and preferred partner program.

THE FUTURE: Key innovation changes will include but not limited to increasing availability of our robotics/automation technology, the use of specialized tools for specific applications and bespoke engineering solutions to allow

the treated assets to run harder for longer.

ABOUT US

Since it began operating in the early 2000’s Applied Ultrasonics has completed well over 3,000 projects for customers in industries such as mining, aerospace, defence, bridges, rail, general infrastructure, energy, renewables, refineries and oil and gas.  This work ranges from being involved with NASA on the Mars Space program and the Orion project. To the repairs and maintenance of over 400 diesel locomotives for Caterpillar owned Progress Rail. From working on the largest mining draglines in the world to applying UIT to bushings using robotics, Applied Ultrasonics has met its customer’s needs.

In addition to this work, Applied Ultrasonics has been involved in multi-year research programs with the US Department of Defence and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Importantly the company has worked with its customers and industry bodies to develop recognized specifications and standards that are applicable to the UIT technology. 

Applied Ultrasonics facility in Birmingham, AL USA is equipped to carry out its own internal testing and research and has worked with leading universities in the US, Australia, Canada, and Europe on initiatives that validate the performance of the UIT technology.

Over the last five years the company has expanded its global reach to more than 16 countries. This international expansion is supported by our tailored partnership approach where we match the needs of the customers within each region.
